DescriptionNew York February 16, 1756 £10 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 45.
Only the second example we have ever handled, with the first being the far inferior Newman piece that was described as "An interesting, very rare series with only one denomination authorized and a small print figure of 1,000 notes. Printed by James Parker on two-part paper; the back is coarse. A solid note, it is not split in half as are most printed on this type of paper from New York. The face details are clear and fairly well margined, though the corners are slightly rounded. Noted with 'Small Edge Splits.' The first we have offered and much rarer than the subsequent April 20, 1756 issue." The Newman note was graded Fine 15 Apparent by PCGS and realized $910. This note is vastly its superior. The Newman Plate Note from the Ford collection is the only other we know of. This piece has fully earned its XF 45 grade, and has strong signatures and perfect clarity of design. The Apparent grade has been assigned only for "Minor Edge Splits at Top and Bottom". The one at the bottom is short and of no consequence, and the one at the top cannot be seen. A spectacular note for the advanced New York specialist or Colonial generalist seeking high-grade combined with extreme rarity.
