Description(Canajoharie, New York) - Reformed Dutch Church of Upper Part of Canajohary February 4, 1793 1 Penny Newman page 308, Harris H5. PCGS Very Fine 25.
This is a rare and very choice example of "Church-Money," and so specified at the center of the back. Printed by C.R. and G. Webster, Albany on laid paper. Ornamental bordering on both sides encloses the text. The back ornaments are particularly distinctive. The signature of Jacob Maskell is visible at the lower right face. A beautiful note with the back strongly printed. The finest note we have seen from the issuer.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
