New York- City of Poughkeepsie March 19, 1791 1d PCGS Apparent Fine 12.
The city of Poughkeepsie authorized an issue of small change notes in 1791. The only denominations issued were 1d, 2d, and 3d. All are very rare today. PCGS notes restorations and an enhancement of Peter Tappan's signature. These seem to have been well executed as the note faces up quite well. We last sold this example in 2019 as part of our Long Beach Expo U.S. Currency Signature Auction when it crossed the auction block for $600. This level should be tested in this auction.
