New York April 21, 1760 £5 PMG Apparent Very Fine 25.
An example from a very rare early New York issue printed on thin paper by William Weyman, consisting of only three denominations, with a printing of a mere 3000 notes for the £5 denomination. None of the notes are priced in the most recent edition of Newman's The Early Paper Money of America. However, the reference does include a notation that an AU £10 note went for $5750 in 2004. We have only handled a couple of examples of this denomination over our many years in business. Every word of the text, the New York coat of arms, and warning "Tis Death to counterfeit this Bill" are well printed on this note. PCGS assigned the apparent grade due to multiple repaired splits. The repairs were skillfully performed.
