High-Grade 1780 New Jersey Guaranteed NoteState of New Jersey June 9, 1780 $5 Fr. NJ-188. PCGS Choice New 63PPQ.
An attractive and high-grade Guaranteed by the United States type note from New Jersey, printed by Hall and Sellers. The bottom signature is that of David Brearley, a signer of the Constitution. This example is fully signed on the face and countersigned on the back by Joseph Borden. A superior example from this series where strictly Uncirculated notes are much scarcer than collectors realize. The face margins are wide and even on this example, and the face-to-back registration is superior. Bold red border and emblem color on the back enhances the overall eye appeal. This fits perfectly into a Guaranteed note state set and few are finer.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
