    New Jersey March 25, 1776 1s PCGS New 62.
First enacted in 1768, the Crown rejected this legislation several times until finally conditional approval was received on February 20, 1775. When the Revolution began, these conditions were considered void and notes were finally issued. £100,000 in Bills of Credit was authorized. The bills attained legal tender status by the Act of September 20, 1776 and were to be called in by January 1, 1780. Notes were printed by Isaac Collins. 81,250 1s notes with plate letters A-C were printed for this large emission. This plate letter C note is well printed with bold signatures of Robert Smith, Johnston, and Smyth. Its tight margins hold it back from an even higher grade.
From the Colonial Valley Collection, Part II
