Exceptionally Well-Margined 1756 New Jersey Note

New Jersey June 22, 1756 15s PCGS Choice About New 55.
By normal colonial standards these margins are adequate at best. By 1756 New Jersey colonial standards, where a note with full frame line on all four sides is next to impossible, these margins are actually really good. The printing quality is superior for this emission and there is but a handled lower right corner. To punctuate the point about how collectors view well-margined pieces from this issue one only needs to look at our recently-completed Newman sale. There we had a well-margined PCGS Choice New 63PPQ note sell for over $800 instead of the $300 that a typical example in that grade brought. Our estimate is low and one should not be fooled into thinking that eclipsing that mark is a fool's errand.
