New Jersey 1786 1s PMG Very Fine 20 Net.
The 1786 emission was the last New Jersey colonial era issue made, comprising £100,000 in Loan Office Bills of Credit. These notes retained legal tender status until December 5, 1798 and thereafter became invalid after June 5, 1799. The notes bore virtually identical designs, with the New Jersey coat of arms on the face and a sage leaf nature print on the back. They were printed by Isaac Collins in Trenton. Denominations ranged from 1s to £6. 50,000 of the 1s note were printed with plate letters A-C. This plate letter C example has clear design details on good paper with decent margins. The clear signatures are those of Benjamin Smith and James Ewing, who served as an alternate. PMG mentions a repair (at center.)
From the Colonial Valley Collection, Part II
