DescriptionNew Hampshire April 29, 1780 $5 PMG Choice About Unc 58.
2900 $5s were printed for use with this series. The back emblem depicts a hand bleeding due to pricks from thorns with the motto SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (Either survive or give up). Although PMG mentions the obvious hole cancel as well as some much more subtle small tears, this note is well printed on bright paper with good margins and colors and has strong signatures of J. Pearson, J. McClure, and a faint signature of Robinson as well as a clear guaranty signature of John Taylor Gilman and an additional signature of J. Hull above the interest table. This note is currently tied with one other example as the highest graded note in the PMG Population Report for this catalog number.
