Amazingly Detailed Paul Revere Engraved Codfish Note - The Newman Plate Note
Massachusetts October 18, 1776 6d Codfish PCGS Choice New 63PPQ.An incredible Codfish note that served as the plate note in the fifth edition Newman appearing in color on page 212. The note is wonderfully well margined on both sides with a Codfish vignette at the top of the face that has amazing detail. The columns that adorn the sides of the note are also fully detailed, something that is virtually never seen on this weakly printed type. The face plate for this note was engraved by Paul Revere and the face of the note was also printed by him. John Gill printed the backs which have a cast cut of a pine tree. One of the very nicest codfish notes we've handled, not simply due to its Uncirculated grade, which is rare in itself, but more for its incredible clarity and detail.
