    Description

Massachusetts October 16, 1778 9d Very Fine. Evenly circulated with slightly rounded corners and a light stain but totally clear in all its details. The pine tree vignette on the back of the note is strongly printed, which is rather unusual for this type. Part of the extreme popularity of this issue is due to the fact that Paul Revere engraved the original plates, and also printed the face of the notes. The pine tree on the back is a cast cut, and the backs were printed by Thomas Fleet.
