    Description

Paul Revere Printed October 16, 1778 4s6d - The Highest Graded by PCGS for the Entire Issue

    Massachusetts October 16, 1778 4s/6d PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
Top Pop at PCGS with only a single 64 below it. In fact, this incredible 66PPQ is the only note at the 66 level for the entire issue of 12 different denominations, with only three 65's for the issue one of which is in this sale. Part of the extreme popularity of this issue is due to the fact that Paul Revere engraved the original plates, and also printed the face of the notes. The pine tree on the back of this Codfish note is a cast cut, and the backs were printed by Thomas Fleet. This past January we auctioned a 62PPQ for $1,997. This high end Gem which is wonderfully margined on both sides and sharply printed will leave that number far in the dust.
