DescriptionMassachusetts October 16, 1778 1s 6d PMG Very Fine 30 Net.
The important codfish design at top center is dark and displays strong details on this well printed note that displays nice margins overall. Thomas Dawes was the signer of this 1 shilling, 6 pence note. Dawes (1731-1809), a native of Boston, served as a colonel in the Massachusetts militia during the Revolutionary War and later held a number of important positions in Massachusetts government. William Dawes was a cousin. PMG assigned the net grade to this example due to a tear, according to their notation on the holder.
