Massachusetts November 24, 1781 $16 Fr. MA-289 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.
Over the last several years, a decent-sized portion of these Massachusetts 1781 $16 notes have passed through our doors. Not all that long ago, this note had been considered a great rarity. This all changed roughly ten years ago, when a small horde was discovered. The vast majority have now found new homes amongst the collecting community, making them still very scarce items that attract aggressive bidding when they are presented at auction. The example offered here features lavishly wide margins and superb embossing on the seal. There is also one hole-punch cancellation. An overall wonderful example that PMG has rightly assigned the EPQ designation.
