    Description

Massachusetts November 17, 1776 48s Contemporary Counterfeit PCGS Apparent About New 50.
One of the rarest issues of Massachusetts notes. Genuine examples are virtually never seen, and even counterfeits are rarely encountered. This note is pen cancelled with an "X" across its face signifying its fraudulent status, and the word "Counterfeit" is written vertically on the back next to the Continental soldier. Quite a good counterfeit that clearly circulated for a time along with the genuine examples of this prohibitively rare issue. The genuine notes of this issue were printed by Paul Revere. We have never sold a genuine of this note, but in January of 2006 we auctioned a raw VF Counterfeit for $1955. This note, which is well superior, should do far better. The Apparent grade was assigned for "Edge Splits," which are at either end of the horizontal center fold.
