    Extremely Rare Massachusetts June 20, 1744 2d - Ex-F.C.C. Boyd and Ex-Wayte Raymond

Massachusetts June 20, 1744 2d Contemporary Counterfeit? PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
This wonderful rarity was previously lot 531 of Stack's May 11, 2004 sale pedigreed back to F.C.C. Boyd and Wayte Raymond. It was not considered a counterfeit at that time, and we are inclined to agree, although ascertaining genuines on these early notes is an extreme challenge. The Apparent grade has been assigned for the repair of a small hole, restorations, and design redrawing, all of which have taken place since the Stack's sale and are consummately well done. It realized $4415 in 2004, with its flaws, and on today's market could easily double that realization.
