Massachusetts June 18, 1776 1s/8d About Extremely Fine. The uninitiated colonial collector might look at this note and think that this cataloger has lost his mind giving this high a grade. This issue has coarse and thick paper that did not print well leaving the print quality suspect looking at best. This is a very pleasing example of a very scarce issue as the signature and serial number are boldly inked and there is evidence of some light folds and a couple of petty edge nicks in the top border. Notes from this issue are commonly seen in Fine but in the upper circulated grades or better become considerably scarcer. This is the first time we have ever had the opportunity of offer this scarce denomination and we have a feeling that one astute collector will rise to the occasion and snatch it from the other's grasp.Auction Info
