Extremely Rare July 8, 1775 Paul Revere Copper Plate Note

Massachusetts July 8, 1775 9s PMG Very Fine 20 Net.
This is the rarer of the two Paul Revere engraved copperplate issues. We have handled four or five notes from the May 25, 1775 issue, but this is the second example of this far rarer July 8, 1775 issue. Notes from this issue were engraved by Colonial patriot and silversmith Paul Revere. While the issue date is July 8, 1775, the plate had an altered date from the May 25, 1775 issue. The plate was engraved well prior to that. The work was done at the latest less than a month after Paul Revere's historic ride. The indent at the left when complete shows a monogram in the midst of vine designs and it has the words "American Paper" printed at the bottom. By the nature of an indent, it is never complete on an issued note. This particular example has a very large piece of the indent remaining as it shows the entirety of the words "American Paper." A very historical piece of American paper money for the collectors of today. This extremely rare Colonial which is in amazing condition for its age and paper. PMG has assigned the Net for "Repairs," which is the simple rebuilding of blank areas on the note with no alteration to text or signatures. In January 2014 we auctioned a VF30 of the more common May 25 issue 10s without the net for over $7,000. Our recently concluded Newman Auction had a Very Fine 25 Apparent 14s that was pen cancelled. This note, to the best of our recollection, is the only uncancelled example we have seen from either of these copperplate issues. The extreme rarity of this issue can be seen by the grading service figures. The combined total of notes graded for the May 25 issue is 28 and the combined total for this July 8 issue is 5.
