Attractive August 18, 1775 Half Crown "Sword"Massachusetts Bay August 18, 1775 2 Shillings 6 Pence Fr. MA-160. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent.
The next several series of Revere engraved and printed notes were the "Sword in Hand" types issued across four dates. The faces used texts in large cartouche, and a small vignette at the lower left varying by denomination. The backs used the iconic patriot wielding a sword, an impressive image to place on the money during the period. Most genuine "Swords" are low grade, but they all have historic charm and many have interesting nuances. This is an attractive "Half Crown" example and noted with "Small Edge Splits; Minor Stains." Above average for the type and perfect for any collection.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
