Massachusetts 1779 3s6d Choice Very Fine. A clean, handsome Rising Sun note, printed from plates engraved by Paul Revere. In spite of its light use, this note split halfway along its center fold and partway down from the center in an "L" shape. The split was repaired contemporarily by being sewn closed with homespun thread. We've seen this application before on Colonial notes, but invariably on low-grade horror pieces. This is the first time we've seen this technique employed on a wholly presentable note. In fact, even with the sewing, this is one of the nicest Rising Sun notes we've handled in quite some time.
