Massachusetts Treasury Certificate December 24, 1780 Choice About New. An extremely rare piece of fiscal paper listed as a high R7 in Anderson's The Price of Liberty, indicating only 4 to 6 pieces known to exist. Just like on the plate piece in the Anderson book, this certificate has had the original July date crossed out and altered to Christmas Eve. This piece has a triangle cancellation cut into the bottom removing part of Gardner's signature, but it is otherwise a superb looking piece. The pine-tree vignette at the left and the words "Witness my Hand" above the signature are printed in red. This is the first example of this certificate that we have ever seen. It's both extremely rare and very visually pleasing.
