High Grade September 17, 1776 Massachusetts Sword in Hand

    Massachusetts September 17, 1776 14s PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
A wonderful note from a very rare sword in hand issue that is unpriced in either Friedberg or Newman. In Friedberg the entire issue of eight denominations are simply referred to as Extremely Rare across all the grade columns. Newman quotes two auction records for notes from this issue. A 14s graded Very Fine for $8,050 in May 2005 and a Fine 22s for $5,060 from the same sale. This note is plated in color both face and back on page 211 of the current Newman Fifth Edition. The rarity of this note and its importance to Colonial collectors cannot be over-emphasized. And as to quality, the PCGS assigned grade of Extremely Fine 45 just about sums it up. We will add that the signatures and serial number are unusually bold and the note has incredible eye appeal to accompany its extreme historic importance.
