Magnificent PCGS 45PPQ Small Sword in Hand $2 Note - Top-Pop at Both services Combined

    Massachusetts June 18, 1776 12s PCGS Extremely Fine 45PPQ.
The first example of this $2 small Sword in Hand Massachusetts note that we have handled. It is listed in Friedberg as simply rare in all grades. Newman lists it at $2000 in Very Good and $10,000 in Extremely Fine. Each grading service has graded only a single example. PCGS has this 45PPQ which is Top-Pop at both services combined. PMG has graded a single 35. The note is wonderfully margined with one strong signature and one somewhat faded signature. The serial number 5132 is bold and distinct. When the Newman book first appeared, the prices were far ahead of the market but they are rapidly catching up and while this great note may not reach the $10,000 book price, it should certainly approach.
