    Description

    Massachusetts August 18, 1775 6s PMG Very Fine 20.
After the copperplate notes, the next several series of Revere engraved and printed notes were the "Sword in Hand" types issued across four dates. This August 18, 1775 issue is the first of those four issues. The face of the note is mostly text with a small ship vignette at the lower left, varying by denomination. The backs used the iconic patriot wielding a sword with his right hand while holding a copy of the Magna Charta in his left hand, presenting an impressive image on the money during the period. Most genuine "Swords" are low grade, but they all have historic charm and many have interesting plate subtleties. This six shillings example was heavily used in commerce, as is typical for the lower denominations. PMG has not net graded the note, but has included the word, "Stained," on the back of the holder. While technically accurate, the stains are few and very minor.
