Massachusetts 1779 5s4d Choice Very Fine. The face plate for this note was engraved by Colonial patriot Paul Revere, and the faces were printed in his shop. This Rising Sun small-change note is boldly printed on both sides, and it is extremely well margined all the way around. It's totally free of flaws, and it has terrific eye appeal. Many years ago, this cataloger attempted to put together a set of this Rising Sun issue. After about a decade, I gave up and sold, with the set less than half complete. It's amazing that notes with the history, eye appeal and rarity of this issue can be had for so little money. In checking CAA records, the difficulty in completing this series becomes apparent. Of the dozen different denominations, CAA has sold only eight of them in our 30+ sales.
