    Massachusetts 1779 4s/8d PMG Very Fine 30. This is an appealing Rising Sun note. Only 9411 of these 4s/8d notes were printed. The face plate for this note was engraved by Paul Revere and the faces where also printed by him. The backs re-used cast cuts of pine trees from the Codfish issue and were printed by Thomas Fleet. This example was signed by Thomas Dawes (1731-1809). Dawes, born in Boston, served as a colonel in the Massachusetts militia during the Revolutionary War. He was an architect and designed the Old Street House as well as Brattle Street Church.
