Rare State of Maryland Army Note Remainder

State of Maryland Army Note Remainder Circa 1782. Anderson MD 12. PCGS Apparent About New 50. Attractive borders are found on this remainder of notes authorized on November 4, 1782 in Annapolis. According to the footnote on page 476 of The Papers of Alexander Hamilton, Volume XI Feb. - June 1792 by Harold C. Syrett, Editor and Jacob E. Cooke, Associate Editor, "Maryland creditors of the United States were placed in a better position than those of either Pennsylvania or New Jersey, for that state's legislature not only assumed the United States debts owed its citizens but also made interest payable in specie rather than in bills of credit..."
Anderson did not assign a rarity rating to these notes, instead listing "unknown" which indicates although issued, no survivors had been uncovered prior to the publication of The Price of Liberty. The apparent grade is due to an edge split at top center and damage at the lower right corner according to the notations on the holder.
