Maryland January 1, 1767 $1 Very Fine. The novice might not appreciate this note but it is clearly superior to most of its peers. This is a moderately circulated note with only a single centerfold tear at the top. The signatures are bold and the design boldly printed. Although the corners have been lightly clipped this is an excellent note. Notes from this 1767 series are probably 100 times scarcer than the more available 1774 issue and most always in lower grades. This paper is much more stiff than the later issues and cracked easily as soon as it was folded with most survivors therefore being in the lower grade ranges. One must step up to the plate when the opportunity presents itself and if you hear the knocking that's because this note is it.
