Maryland January 1, 1767 $1/6 Very Fine. The first governmental use of the term "dollar" as an official monetary unit was seen with this issue. We have rarely been able to offer these notes. Only 12,000 were printed. The $1/6 denominations include commas in the Roman numerals as an anti-counterfeiting device. The inks remain bold on this example, including the signatures. A center split was repaired with backing at some later date and the corners are rounded.
