Maryland October 17, 1780 $1/15 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
The entire issue of four different denominations is excessively rare. In fact we have auctioned only one example previously. That was a $1/6 piece grading PCGS VF 20 and bringing $3,737.50 in September 2011. A look at both major grading services concerning the entire four denomination issue tells us that PCGS has only graded the earlier $1/6 note that we auctioned, while PMG has graded just this $1/15 note. Also, the entire issue is unpriced in the Friedberg reference with each denomination declared as "extremely rare." The next stop is the Newman reference and we see that the values end at the Fine grade at $5,000 for all four of the denominations. The Net grade is for a foreign substance and edge damage, but nonetheless a rare note worthy of a strong bid.
