Maryland June 8, 1780 $1/3 PMG Very Fine 20 Net.
The first example of this denomination from the "Black Money" issue that we have handled, Friedberg lists this denomination as "Extremely Rare" with no valuation given in any column. PMG has graded this example only and PCGS has yet to see one of these. Four auction lot tags are present with this lot tracing it back to the T. James Clarke sale by NASCA in June 1978. While the whole issue is rare, this $1/3 denomination is clearly a hidden rarity inside a very rare issue. The net grade has been assigned for an unspecified "Restoration." It is very well executed and of little importance.
