Stunning Gem New 66PPQ January 1, 1767 $2/3 Note
Maryland January 1, 1767 $2/3 Fr. MD-43. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.This January 1, 1767, $2/3 is magnificent and perhaps the finest extant. In the first Newman Part VI Currency sale in April 2015 we sold the $1/3 sheet-mate of this mesmerizing note in Gem New 66PPQ condition for $8,812.50. Notes from this series are normally Good to Very Good, split, pinned and/or backed. Many years ago, this note was part of very small group of now well-dispersed examples that fell into the serial number range in the vicinity of the No. 11365 observed here. This example appears perfect to us. It is beautifully printed, with the imprint of Jonas Green on the back showing a horizontal nature print. The face has most of the left indent intact and extra wide margins at the top and right. There is nearly perfect in face-to-back registration and the surfaces are immaculate. Undervalued in relation to Gem Continental Currency notes, several of which have crossed the $10,000 level in Gem New 66PPQ or finer. Very few 1767 Maryland notes approach, and likely do not exceed, the level of this stunning Gem.
