DescriptionGeorgia October 16, 1786 20s PCGS Extremely Fine 45PPQ. A boldly signed, beautifully margined example of the highest-denomination note from the final Georgia issue. In September of 2003, we sold a similarly graded example that was cut into the design on all three sides for $1955. This piece is fully margined all the way around with the entire sheet selvage at the top. It's the best looking example of its issue and denomination that we have handled. The thin, weak paper was very prone to splitting, and problem-free examples without restorations are almost never seen. This one has to be right up there with the very finest known. A beautiful and important note. PCGS does not publish a Colonial census, but PMG has graded only a single note above this level--a 50 EPQ.
Estimate: $5,000 - up.
