    Incredible Georgia Colonial Error Note

Georgia May 4, 1778 $30 PCGS Apparent About New 50.
The Apparent grade has been assigned for "Masked Stains; Repairs," but these defects are of no consequence compared to the importance of this as an extremely unusual Error note. The first we have seen of this type on any Colonial from any Colony. Along the left edge of the note the vertically printed "State of Georgia" has been printed twice: initially in black which is incorrect, as it should have been in red. After it was discovered it was reprinted in red, which is about 1/32nd of an inch high and to the right of the original black printing, giving the note the appearance of a 3D comic book with the glasses off. Incredibly interesting, and on a note which is a very nice example of its type even without the error. The signatures are strong, the seal is boldly printed, and the note has excellent margins. A challenge to estimate as Colonial Errors are generally met with earth shaking collective yawns. This one, however, impresses us, and if the bidders are equally impressed the price could run.

    Estimate: $2,000 - up.
