The seal illustrates a palmetto tree being crushed by a millstone, along with the Latin motto Oppressa Surgit, which roughly translates to, "After being crushed, it rises." All five signatures remain quite bold. The signers were Joseph Wood, Edward Langworthy, Richard Wylly, William O'Bryen, and Nehemiah Wade.
