DescriptionGeorgia 1776 - Crown (two border varieties) 5s PMG Very Fine 30 Net.
The crown on this five Shillings note was looked down upon as being unpatriotic and was later replaced with a light blue circular seal. Scottish-born James Johnston, the official printer for the colony, was a Tory, and during the American Revolution he chose to remain loyal to England. His business was confiscated and run by inexperienced printers, resulting in simpler and less uniform designs and the creation of more varieties. PMG has graded six of these, with this and one other 30, and nothing higher. The net grade has been given for "Repairs," but they are minor and very well executed.
Estimate: $1,250 - up.
