DescriptionGeorgia 1776 $2 Green Seal PMG Very Fine 20. A solid Georgia in a comment-free holder, with decent margins and a strong Floating Jugs vignette. This is the Green Seal variety, priced at $4500 in Very Fine in the new Newman. The note is in a PMG holder that identifies it as GA-72c, the orange seal variety. The seal is a strange shade that blurs the line between green and orange. We've shown this to any number of experts, and although this cataloger leans toward the PMG assignment of orange, he has been voted, shouted, and cajoled into green. Using the Heritage archive, and enlarging a distinct green, a distinct orange, and this note, the case does indeed lean toward the green people (the people are not actually green, just on the side of green). Georgia notes from this era are rarely found free of repairs and restorations. This piece is one of just a handful of moderately circulated notes that survives problem free.
Estimate: $3,500 - up.
