Very Rare 1775 1 Shilling 6 Pence-George Walton Signer of the Declaration of Independence

Georgia 1775 1 Shilling 6 Pence Fr. GA-54. George Walton Signature. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent.?
This is a rare type, and all notes from the series are unpriced in the Eric P. Newman reference, The Early Paper Money of America. Most notes from the series are low grade with damage of some sort present. However, this is a significant and extremely rare Signer of the Declaration of Independence Georgia note. George Walton's signature, second in rarity only to that of James Wilson, is at the lower left. Continental Congressman Walton later became Governor and Chief Justice of the State of Georgia. The Boyd note, a bright example that was backed on paper, realized $4,887 in May 2004 and is the current plate note in the Newman reference (5th edition). This well-printed example has a sharply defined sheaf vignette. Noted with "Splits and Repairs," which are minor considerations for a note that is very collectible due to its rarity and excellent signature clarity.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
