Continental Currency July 22, 1776 $5 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
This is an extremely scarce Continental in high grade. PMG has graded only this piece Uncirculated with its closest rival an About New 55. PCGS has graded two Uncirculated pieces, one 64 and one 65. This note is a real beauty with excellent margins, boldly applied signatures, and a needle sharp vignette. The vignette is of a hand being pricked by thorns and the motto is SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (either survive or give up). This is the first Uncirculated example that we have had the opportunity to bring to the market. In 2014, the PCGS 65 example which is the only piece graded higher than this realized $4400.
