Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $1 PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
Only four of the issues of Continental Currency had this $1 denomination. The lower denomination notes went immediately into circulation and very few are available in high grade. This, in fact, is the only Uncirculated 1779 $1 that we have ever sold. We handled it at the 2005 FUN sale where it was sold sans third party grading for $1610. PCGS agrees with our assessment of its quality, assigning it the extremely high 66PPQ grade. On today's more quality conscious market, we would not be surprised to see this surpass its more than six year old result.
