    Continental Loan Office Bill of Exchange Fourth Bill- $12 Oct. 1, 1779 Anderson US-94/MA-5A. Fine. This Bill of Exchange was payable to John Abbot and he endorsed the back with a "Pay the Contents" notation to W. Thomas Patterson. Signed by Francis Hopkinson as the Treasurer of Loans and Nath. Appleton, this appealing example retains good color and has the "UNITED STATES 4" watermark. The most common variety of these notes, this type was assigned a R1 in The Price of Liberty, indicating over 1,250 surviving notes. Ink erosion and a few small internal tears are observed.
