DescriptionContinental Currency November 2, 1776 $5 PCGS About New 53PPQ.
A bleeding hand is grasping a thorn bush in the emblem on this well-printed $5. The motto is SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (either survive or give up). The nature print is betony and sage, the same print that was used on earlier Pennsylvania notes. Benjamin Levy and Benjamin Brannan were the signers of this example. Although it was believed for many years that Continental Currency signer Benjamin Jacobs was Jewish, research has indicated that was incorrect and therefore that leaves Levy as the only Jewish signer. The handling is very light on this boldly printed example.
