Description

Continental Currency May 9, 1776 $5 PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
"In August of 2010, we offered an example of this denomination as part of The Collection of a Patriotic American. The collection was the work of a very dedicated individual who assembled one of the greatest sets of Continentals. The May 9, 1776 $5 in that collection graded PCGS 58PPQ and was the finest example of the denomination we had handled to date. It ultimately sold for nearly $500. This well margined piece shows deep, dark signatures and embossing from the design details imprinted in the paper. Expect a solid realization for the finest example of this denomination to pass through our auctions in at least a decade." That was the description we used when we recently sold a 63PPQ. That note realized over $1,350. This incredible piece absolutely blows it out of the water. Very few Continentals even from the common issues will ever be graded 66PPQ.
