DescriptionContinental Currency May 20, 1777 $8 PCGS Apparent Choice About New 58. This is a deceptive contemporary counterfeit, printed by the Tories in an effort to undermine the economy of our fledgling independent nation. Both signatures are authentic looking, but the nature print on the back is extremely muddy. This is a scarce counterfeit of the second scarcest issue of Continental Currency. We can recall offering just one other counterfeit of this denomination and issue and just a couple of more counterfeits for the entire May 20, 1777 issue. For decades, Continental Counterfeits paced the market with genuines in value, and as Continentals grow in popularity, the trend of counterfeits and genuine notes' being of equal value seems to be continuing. The "Apparent" grade is for "paper peel on back at UR."
