DescriptionContinental Currency May 10, 1775 $2 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
This low denomination note from the First Continental Issue is an extreme challenge to locate in high grade. The PCGS 63PPQ which we sold in 2010 in our Patriotic American Auction remains the finest known. Behind that there is a single 62. Those two notes are the lone Uncirculated examples at both services combined. While the technical grade of 35 is accurate, the "apparent" strikes us as harsh, with some minor mounting remnants and restorations seen. The note faces up beautifully with the brown signature perfect and the red signature only slightly faded. Opportunities to acquire higher-grade pieces for this magnificent set were missed, in favor of the eye appeal of this high-end VF.
