    Description

July 22, 1776 Blue Detector Sheet

Continental Currency July 22, 1776 Uncut Single Pane Sheet of $30-$2-$3-$4/$8-$7-$6-$5 Blue Counterfeit Detector Notes Fr. CC-46DT-CC-39DT-CC-41DT/CC-45DT-CC-42DT. PCGS Choice About New 55.
This is another very bold and attractive counterfeit detector sheet from the Newman Collection. The denomination array is the same as used on February 17, 1776 and May 9, 1776 resolutions. The few gutter folds seen between notes are light, and several individual impressions appear to be fully Gem. The broad margins all around frame this majestically. This appears finer than the choice example we sold at the 2010 ANA sale for $3,737.50 graded raw EF. A beautiful piece and perhaps conservatively graded.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
