Description

Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $50 PCGS About New 53.
These notes were called for redemption due to the amount of British-sponsored counterfeiting that occurred. Printed on paper watermarked CONFEDERATION in two lines, the $50 denomination has a stepped pyramid with 13 levels that represents the 13 states and their strength and unity. The motto is PERENNIS (everlasting). The signatures remain bold on this attractive example that has only light circulation.

    Estimate: $300 - up.
