Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $1 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
This gorgeous $1 Continental from the final issue does not need the 65 EPQ on the holder to let you know how nice it really is. Anyone who has ever gazed at a Continental note will pick up on that in a second. A very slight tightness at the bottom of the left face margin is all that keeps it from the superb grade. Bright signatures, perfect paper quality, and essentially untouched surfaces are all immediately obvious. A truly gorgeous Continental. We have not sold a 65 premium paper quality example from either service, but in January 2017 we auctioned a 66 EPQ for just under $10,000. That was an outlier to be sure, but it indicates the tenaciousness of buyers for truly exceptional Continentals. This note should realize right around $2,000, but may well surprise.
