These Continentals are known as the Baltimore issue because the Continental Congress was forced to meet in that city from Dec. 20, 1776 until Feb. 27, 1777 while British forces were occupying Philadelphia. Some or all of the bills may have been printed in Philadelphia after the Continental Congress was able to return.
