Superb Gem New February 17th 1776 $2 - The Finest Graded at Either ServiceContinental Currency February 17, 1776 $2 PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.
The finest graded at either service and, in fact, one of only three 67's at either service for the entire issue. One of those three is the 2/3 dollar note appearing above. This note, as one would expect, is simply spectacular with broad, even margins, bold signatures, and plainly evident paper originality. The nature print on the back is of three leaves, a raspberry leaf and two filbert leaves. The identical nature print was previously used on some Pennsylvania issues. The face vignettes are of grain being threshed by a flail. The Latin motto in "TRIBULATIO DITAT," which Newman translates, "Affliction improves it." Both the motto and the vignette itself are wonderfully sharp. One of the very finest notes in this outstanding collection.
